Total Sports Asia Helps TM Clinch Milestone Deal With Manchester United And English FA!

Posted on March 22, 2010February 25, 2019 by admin

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), with the help of Total Sports Asia, has just sealed a partnership with Manchester United for the next 5 years starting from season 2010/11. With this landmark deal, TM’s brand and association with MU will be showcased to 4.2 million MU fans in Malaysia and more than 330 million fans and football followers worldwide.

MU invited officials from TM to Old Trafford and their training facility in Carrington last Nov to seal the deal. The invaluable Red Devil experience will now be extended to TM’s clients and customers during the period of the sponsorship. The contract was signed in the last days of 2009 and made official last week.

TM Group CEO Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa hailed the partnership as “the union of two great brands.” MU manager Sir Alex Ferguson were among those present, along with TM vice-president for group marketing Sherene Azura Azli, and MU commercial director Richard Arnold.

Zamzamzairani said the deal would cover a broad marketing platform for TM’s products and services, including iTalk prepaid calling cards, Streamyx broadband service and its broadband TV portal, Hypp.TV (www.hypp.tv).

MU fans can expect joint branded merchandise from TM, media content, opportunities to win trips to Manchester United, to train with the team, etc. It will also provide MU fans and TM customers access to MU’s latest news, fan videos, team profiles and online contests.

With the deal, TM becomes the English Premier League champion’s official integrated telecommunications partner in Malaysia with licensing, intellectual property (IP) and dealership rights to produce and distribute merchandises bearing the club’s crest and team images.

This deal follows the success of TM’s involvement with Manchester United’s Asian Tour last year. Supported by a full blown campaign, TM sold over 200,000 iTalk cards within 48 hours!

TM has been engaged in the local football scene for a number of years, including as the Title Sponsor of Liga Malaysia since 2005. Total Sports Asia, who has been TM’s sports consultant for the last three years, has actively extended TM’s association with international soccer through the coming World Cup and as of today, with the FA of England.

TM also has announced a one-year deal with the English FA which gives the telco licensing, IP and dealership rights to produce and distribute selected merchandise bearing the crest of the FIFA World Cup-bound England team. TM will also be the official telco licensee for the FA!
