“Sports marketing specialist packs Olympic punch by securing media distribution for the International Boxing Association”
Kuala Lumpur Aug 6th 2010 :- In a timely move that coincides with the 1st Youth Olympics later this week, Total Sports Asia (TSA), Asia’s leading integrated sports marketing agency, has secured a deal to distribute media content for top-rated Olympic boxing worldwide. These rights include television, broadband and mobile rights which were acquired in a deal with the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
To start things off, TSA will be distributing the Women’s World Boxing Championship, to be held in Barbados in September. It will be the first Women’s World Championships to be held since the IOC’s historic decision to include women’s boxing at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
TSA will also offer the AIBA World Championships 2011 which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan next year, with coverage from the semi-finals and finals. Other events on the AIBA calendar are the President’s Cup, the European Elite Championship and the continental Olympic qualifying events.
“TSA has a long history of distributing boxing but the professional version of the sport has fallen off most people’s radar in the past few years due to confusion of who is the real world champion and also the less than transparent nature of the business, including fighters avoiding each other plus many dull match-ups. Olympic boxing is completely transparent with the on screen scoring, short but exciting ring action and you have knock-out tournaments that find true champions at each weight category,” said Executive Vice President of Media at Total Sports Asia, Julian Jackson.
Jackson added: “This is a great opportunity for broadcasters to get boxing in its truest and most legitimate form”.
AIBA President Ching-Kuo stressed the increasing appeal of Olympic boxing: “We are seeing record numbers of boxers in all our major tournaments and recent improvements to the competition format, rules and scoring system are making AIBA tournaments an even more appealing television proposition. Thanks to this new agreement with Total Sports Asia, I am confident that we can reach an even bigger audience.”
“With the new World Series Boxing, an AIBA property, being heavily promoted around the globe ahead of its debut in November this year, AIBA boxers will become household names. Since AIBA is the world governing body for boxing recognized by the International Olympic Committee, this will also add a new dimension to Olympic boxing,” Wu concluded.
