“TM becomes the Official England Telco Licensee in Malaysia”

Running up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June this year, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) announced the signing of a license agreement with the England Football Association (The FA) to be the Official England Telco Licensee in Malaysia. The partnership with The FA, which has been brokered by Total Sports Asia (TSA), enables TM to have the exclusive use of the England crest and England player imagery in the telco category in Malaysia until the end of 2010.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Y.B. Dato’ Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Minister of Youth and Sports and Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman of TM. Signing on behalf of TM was Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, its Group Chief Executive Officer, while The FA was represented by its Business Development Manager, Marcus Bennett. Also present were Dato’ Azzuddin Ahmad, Secretary-General, Football Association Malaysia (FAM); Dato Sri Ahmad Farid Ridzuan, Chief Executive Officer, Media Prima; Datuk Ibrahim Yahya, Director General, RTM and Ahmad Khawari Mohd Isa, President Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM).

Marcus Luer, Group CEO TSA, commented,

”We are proud to have brought together these two great entities in partnership. TSA’s commitment both to the rights holders and brands we represent is to find the right fit. This relationship exemplifies our ability to seek a great match-up that can be of mutual benefit.”

Sean McAuliffe, Head of Business Development at The FA commented:

“The FA is very excited to be working in partnership with Telekom Malaysia in 2010 and looking forward to what we believe will be a successful relationship. TM’s impressive work and commitment to football in Malaysia will help extend the appeal of the England team and gives us great belief that we can both truly engage with Malaysia’s football fans.”
